Public Dialogue:
Ven Ajahn Brahm & Archbishop Roger Herft

MP3 Lecture Recording of the Buddhist and Anglican Public Dialogue(117MB) : 122 minutes

Venerable Ajahn Brahmavamso Mahathera (known to most as Ajahn Brahm) and Anglican Archbishop Roger Herft will engage in an important and interesting public dialogue at Curtin University:

Background

Ven Ajahn Brahm is the Abbot of Bodhinyana Monastery in Serpentine WA and the Spiritual Director of the Buddhist Society of Western Australia. The Most Reverend Roger Herft is the Archbishop of the Anglican Diocese of Perth. Together they represent the fastest growing major religious group (Buddhism) and the second largest religious group (Anglicans) in Australia. Because of this, dialogue between Buddhists and Anglicans is both valuable and important within Australian society. Ven Ajahn Brahm and the Most Reverend Roger Herft will both lead and model this dialogue during this event.

Dialogue Topic

While there would be many interesting topics which Ven Ajahn Bram and the Most Reverend Roger Herft could engage in, they have chosen the topic “What Would Jesus and Buddha Say to Each Other?”. As both speakers reflect on the founders of Buddhism and Christianity during this dialogue, they will be able to uncover how these religious leaders would have approached each other's teachings and methods. They will also seek to identify what Jesus and Buddha would have encouraged their own followers to do in the multi-faith society and world in which we live.
